    Strong, Mellow Sound!

Posted by Frank from Hawaii on 16th Oct 2015

This was my first harmonium so I had a friend try it out. He basically said the same thing as Mickey of Kala Kendar. Without prompting, my friend's comments matched the very positive reviews on this site and elsewhere. He was pleasantly surprised that even though the Paloma Proline® Traveler is so small, it has great volume and a mellow, full and complete sound. He also found the bellows easy to pump and said they have good sustain, particularly given the harmonium's small size. I loved the sound he got out of it. As I practice, with every note and chord I play, I am increasingly “drawn” to this harmonium's mellow sound. I was also impressed by Mickey's customer service. He listened well and asked questions, and even pulled me on to Skype so I could see and hear options. Thank you Mickey for your patience, your recommendation, and for delivering the harmonium in such great shape (in just a few days). It’s a keeper!

Perfectly portable - great for carrying to kirtans!

I am very pleased with the Paloma Pro-Line Traveler harmonium I purchased at Kala Kendar. Mickey was very helpful. He took the time to show me a variety of harmoniums. While I had intended to buy a larger model, I’m so glad that he pointed out this compact version. It is perfect for my needs. It has a beautiful, resonant tone and is so easily portable – perfect for carrying to kirtans. Thanks for the great service.

    Tiny, beautiful and talented!

High praises for the Paloma Pro-Line Companion harmonium! I went to Kala Kendar to buy a travelling harmonium, and was surprised and enchanted by this particular model. As usual, Mickey let me try a few models that fit my requirements, and this one stood out. The sound quality is superb. The box is made of finely crafted teak and has a lovely satin finish. The wood and keys are lovely to touch, and the instrument is beautiful to look at. The size can’t be beat: 11 pounds! It’s the perfect portable size for me at 5’4”, especially since I use public transit. Even the gig bag is beautifully made. In toto, a work of art for eye, hand and ear. And it’s not just the instrument itself…the customer service at Kala Kendar is outstanding. Mickey is super knowledgeable, patient and helpful. This is both true in the shop while making the purchase, and also afterwards through email support and advice when I had some questions. This particular model seems to be on the crest of a new wave in small harmoniums. Based on my explorations, here are a couple of things you might want to consider. There is a learning curve to pumping the bellows, as they are smaller than “normal”. The keyboard begins at G below middle C, so if you like to play really low, you may feel like you are missing out. Neither of these issues are holding me back. I love this instrument and I am enjoying our budding partnership. I really believe each instrument has its own personality and the more I play, the more we gel together. This is the third instrument I have purchased from Kala Kendar. I can’t imagine going anywhere else. Highly recommended by a very happy (repeat) customer.
